Healthcare within reach — powered by digital health & AI.

Keki Mawe Inc is a Malawian health innovation organisation building digital health, artificial intelligence, nutrition and agriculture solutions that close the healthcare access gap. We design telemedicine platforms, AI-assisted diagnostic and data tools, iron-fortified nutrition products and nutrition-sensitive agriculture programmes — implemented with hospitals, government and global partners across Malawi and beyond.

The gap we work on

Distance, data and nutrition still decide who gets to stay healthy in Malawi.

Specialists are concentrated in a handful of urban hospitals, health data rarely moves in real time between a rural clinic and the district office, and anaemia or malnutrition remain widespread among women and children. Keki Mawe Inc was built to close all three gaps at once — with AI and digital health tools that extend clinical reach and sharpen decisions, and nutrition and agriculture interventions that address the root cause of poor health.

01 — Connect

Extend the clinic, digitally

Telemedicine, mobile health tools and interoperable data systems let a rural health worker bring in a specialist's opinion and report in real time — without a patient travelling hours to a referral hospital.

02 — Design

Co-create, don't impose

Every AI model, workflow and product is shaped with the health workers, clinics, ministries and communities who will use it — human-centred design and co-creation, tested where care actually happens.

03 — Nourish

Treat the root cause

Iron-fortified porridge, powders and biscuits, alongside nutrition-sensitive agriculture training, address anaemia and malnutrition at their source — alongside, not instead of, clinical care.

What we do

Digital health, AI and nutrition solutions, built for every link in the referral chain.

From AI-assisted diagnostics to national health information systems, telemedicine to nutrition-sensitive agriculture — every solution is designed to move a person, a clinic or a health system closer to better outcomes.

AI-Powered Health SolutionsDiagnostics & decision support

Machine-learning models and AI-assisted tools for triage, risk-scoring and diagnostic support, piloted with hospital and research partners across Malawi.

Digital Health SystemsMaHIS & DHIS2 integration

Health information systems architecture, dashboards and interoperability work — including coordination on Malawi's MaHIS platform and DHIS2 integration.

Telemedicine & TeleconsultationRemote clinical support

Connecting clinical officers and health surveillance assistants in under-resourced clinics with doctors and specialists remotely.

Nutrition ProductsIron-fortified & locally made

Iron- and folate-rich powders, biscuits and instant porridge, formulated with local food scientists to fight anaemia and malnutrition.

Nutrition-Sensitive AgricultureAgriTech & farmer training

Training and digital tools for smallholder farmers, linking better crops and food security directly to household nutrition outcomes.

Implementation Science & ResearchEvidence & evaluation

Applying implementation science, human-centred design and research methods to make sure solutions work in real Malawian health settings — not just in pilots.

Led by

James Tayali, Founder & CEO

James founded Keki Mawe in 2016 to tackle anaemia and malnutrition through iron-fortified, locally made food products, after an internship exposed him to the scale of preventable nutrient deficiency in the region. He has since grown Keki Mawe Inc into a health innovation organisation applying AI, digital health, biomedical engineering and human-centred design across Malawi's hospital and government health systems. He holds a BA in Public Health from UC Berkeley, an MPhil in Health Innovation & Biomedical Engineering from the University of Cape Town, a Master of Management Sciences from Tsinghua University, and is a PhD candidate in Business Leadership at the Malawi University of Science and Technology.
